About HCV
HealthCare Ventures is a leading life science venture capital firm investing in pre-clinical or early clinical stage, project-focused companies with potential to transform patient care. Our approach is to identify high potential products within academia or pharmaceutical companies, develop them to clinical proof-of-concept within capital efficient, semi-virtual organizations, and generate superior returns through acquisitions by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
We serve as senior management in our investments, driving business and product development strategy. Our team brings extensive, complementary experience both as investors and senior operating executives at biotechnology companies, with responsibilities that spanned discovery, pre-clinical and clinical development, business development, finance and executive management. We have worked together in both investment and corporate environments over the course of more than 15 years.
We are building on HealthCare Ventures’ 25 years of experience in investing in the life sciences. Since its founding in 1985, HealthCare Ventures has raised $1.6 billion in nine funds. We have invested in 97 companies, 61 as startup ventures. We have had many notable successes in developing innovative pharmaceuticals such as CAMPATH®, Synagis®, Velcade®, and Zolinza®, and in achieving high-value exits, including Aton (acquired by Merck), Avidia (acquired by Amgen), Dendreon, Human Genome Sciences (founding and sale of Principia); LeukoSite (acquired by Millennium), MedImmune (acquired by AstraZeneca), Novazyme (acquired by Genzyme), Shire (direct investment and sale of Pharmavene), and Vicuron (acquired by Pfizer).
